How to Calculate YouTube Playlist Duration

YouTube shows how many videos a playlist has, but never how long it takes to watch them all. This does it in a few seconds.

  1. Copy the playlist's link

From your browser's address bar, or from Share on the playlist in the YouTube app. It has list= in it.

  2. Paste it into the calculator

It reads every video and adds up their lengths. A big playlist takes up to 30 seconds.

  3. Pick your speed

Press 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x or 2x to see the total at that speed, and the time you save.

  4. Plan when you finish

Open Plan to finish, set your time each day and your days, and see the date you finish.

Playback Speed Time Savings

Divide the total by the speed. Here is a 10-hour playlist at each speed.

A 10-hour playlist atYou saveTakes
1.25x2 hours8 hours
1.5x3 hours 20 minutes6 hours 40 minutes
1.75x4 hours 17 minutes5 hours 43 minutes
2x5 hours5 hours

1.5x saves a third of your time. Start at 1.25x and speed up once the voice still feels easy to follow.

How the Study Plan Calendar Works

Tell it how long you can watch and on which days. It hands every day its videos, in order.

  • Time each day: from 30 minutes to 8 hours
  • Your days: weekdays, weekends or any mix
  • Your schedule: a calendar with your finish date, and the videos for each day

YouTube Playlist Study Plan: Plan Your Watching Schedule

Most playlist calculators stop at the total. This one also tells you the day you finish.

  • Speed counts: pick 1.5x and the plan uses the shorter time
  • Part of it: watched some already? Start the plan at the next video
  • Long videos: a video longer than your day gets a day to itself

45 hours of lessons at 1.5x take 30 hours. At 2 hours each weekday, you finish in about 15 watching days.

Common Use Cases for Playlist Duration Checking

  • Online courses: how long a course takes before you start
  • Music: the listening time of a road trip or workout playlist
  • Podcasts: how many episodes fit your commute
  • Creators: the total runtime of your own playlists or channel
  • Tutorials: how many days a coding or design series takes

Frequently asked questions

What people ask most about playlist lengths.

How do I find the total length of a YouTube playlist?

Paste the playlist's link into the box above and press Get total. You see the total length to the second, and every video with its own length. No sign-up needed.

How long does a playlist take at 1.5x or 2x speed?

Divide the total by the speed. A 10-hour playlist takes 6 hours 40 minutes at 1.5x and 5 hours at 2x. Pick a speed above the total and it updates at once.

How do I plan to finish a playlist by a date?

Open Plan to finish under the total. Set how long you can watch each day and which days, and you see the date you finish and the videos for each day.

I already watched part of a playlist. How long is the rest?

Set the videos box to start at the next one. If you watched videos 1 to 15, start at 16. The total, the list and the plan all count from there.

Does it work with private playlists?

No. It reads public and unlisted playlists only, because nobody but the owner can open a private one. Set yours to Unlisted, then paste its link.

Why are some videos not counted?

A video with no length, such as a live stream, a premiere that has not started, or a private or deleted video, is marked in the list and left out of the total.

Is there a limit on playlist size?

It counts up to 500 videos. A longer playlist is counted to video 500, and the page tells you so. A big playlist can take up to 30 seconds to read.

Can I download the list of videos?

Yes. Download spreadsheet saves every video with its number, title, length and link, ready for Excel or Google Sheets. Copy summary copies the total in a few lines.

Can I get the total length of a whole YouTube channel?

Yes, up to its latest 500 uploads. Find the channel ID with the Channel ID Finder, change UC at the start to UU, and paste that.

Is this playlist length calculator free?

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no account. You can look up about 5 playlists a minute.

Does it use the YouTube Data API?

No. It reads the playlist page YouTube shows to anyone, so it uses no API quota and needs no key or YouTube account.

How accurate is the total?

It adds up the length YouTube shows on each video, to the second. A video still live has no length yet, so it is left out until it ends.
