What each label means
| Label | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Top search | YouTube suggests it first when someone types your topic. |
| How-to | People want to learn to do something. Make a clear tutorial. |
| Best of | People want a ranked list. Make a top 5 or a tier list. |
| Review | People are deciding whether to buy. Give an honest review. |
| Comparison | People are choosing between two things. Put them side by side. |
| Explainer | People want to know why or what something is. Explain it simply. |
| Names a year | People want what is current. Put the year in your title. |
Where These Trending Searches Come From
The list comes from YouTube's own search suggestions, the ones that appear as you type in its search box.
YouTube Help says these come from what other people have already searched for. That includes trending searches: popular topics in your area that change during the day.
We look up your topic, then your topic with words like how to, best and new in your language, and with the year. The list joins every answer, most suggested first.
No counts, on purpose. YouTube publishes no numbers for its suggestions. Open Google Trends beside a search to see how it moved this year.
Why Trending Topics Matter for YouTube Growth
A video that answers a search people already type can keep finding viewers long after you post it.
The exact words matter. Use the words of the search in your title and say them early in the video, so viewers know it answers their question.
Longer, more specific searches are often easier for a small channel, because fewer videos answer them exactly.
Content Angles: How to Cover Any Trending Topic
One trending topic can give you several videos. Use the filters above to find each angle:
- How-to: a step-by-step tutorial for beginners
- Best of: your top 5, ranked with reasons
- Review: an honest verdict after real use
- Comparison: two options, tested side by side
- Explainer: the why behind it, in plain words
A Short can answer a quick search in under a minute. A long video suits a how-to or a comparison.
Check a Trend Before You Film
Press any search in the list to open its checks. Each opens in a new tab.
- See videos: what already answers it
- New this week: who posted about it in the last 7 days
- Google Trends: interest on YouTube Search, scored 0 to 100
Google Trends scores each search against its own busiest point, so 100 is its peak, not a count of searches. A rising line means more people are looking now.
