What each label means
| Label | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| High demand | YouTube suggests it straight away when someone types your topic. |
| Medium demand | It is in YouTube's first three suggestions for one of our searches, or more than one search finds it. |
| Low demand | It came up once, lower down in YouTube's suggestions. |
| Question | Viewers want something answered. Answer it in a video, a chapter or a Short. |
| Long-tail | Four words or more. More specific, so usually fewer videos compete. |
| How-to | People want to learn to do something. Make a clear tutorial. |
| Best of | People want a ranked list. Make a top 5 or a tier list. |
| Review | People are deciding whether to buy. Give an honest review. |
| Comparison | People are choosing between two things. Put them side by side. |
| Explainer | People want to know why or what something is. Explain it simply. |
| Names a year | People want what is current. Put the year in your title. |
Where These YouTube Keywords Come From
Every keyword comes from YouTube's own search suggestions, the list that appears as you type in its search box.
YouTube Help says these predictions reflect what people have already searched for on YouTube.
We look up your topic in up to 43 ways. We try it alone, with each letter from A to Z, and with words like how to, best, new, what and why. The list joins every answer.
No made-up numbers. YouTube publishes no search counts, so any exact number is an estimate. We show how strongly YouTube suggests each keyword instead.
Why YouTube Keywords Matter More Than Ever
A video that answers a search people already type can keep finding viewers long after you post it.
The exact words matter. Put the keyword near the start of your title and say it early in the video, so viewers know it answers their search.
Seed Keywords vs Long-tail Keywords
- Seed keyword: your broad topic, like sourdough starter
- Long-tail keyword: four words or more, like sourdough starter not bubbling
A seed keyword brings more searches and more competing videos. A long-tail keyword brings fewer, but the viewers know exactly what they want.
A small channel often does better on long-tail keywords first. Press Long-tail above to see only those.
How to Use This Tool for Maximum Results
- Topics: plan one video for each group, like discard or feeding
- Questions: answer each one as a chapter or a Short
- High demand: your main keyword, near the start of your title
- Related keywords: work them into your description
Press any keyword to check it before you film. Each check opens in a new tab:
- See videos: what already answers it
- New this week: who posted about it in the last 7 days
- Google Trends: interest on YouTube Search, scored 0 to 100
Understanding Demand, Volume and Difficulty
YouTube does not publish how many people search for a keyword. So we show demand from how YouTube suggests it: High, Medium or Low.
No outside tool can see how YouTube ranks videos, so we show no difficulty score. Press See videos to check what already answers a keyword.
For more detail, open Google Trends beside a keyword. It scores interest against its own busiest point, so 100 is its peak, not a count.
Have a channel? In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, then the Trends tab. It shows audience interest from very low to very high.

|---|---|---|
| This keyword tool | Up to 200 keywords you had not thought of, in 40 countries | No search counts |
| The YouTube search box | A quick look at one search | About 10 suggestions at a time |
| Google Trends | Checking if a keyword you know is rising | Compares only what you type in |
| The YouTube Studio Trends tab | Audience interest from very low to very high | Needs a channel; some countries and languages only |
| Paid tools like vidIQ and TubeBuddy | Their own volume and competition scores | The scores are estimates |

Frequently asked questions
What creators ask most about YouTube keyword research.
How do I find keywords for my YouTube videos?
Type your topic above and press Find keywords. You get up to 200 searches people type on YouTube about it, each marked High, Medium or Low demand. It is free and needs no sign-up.
Where do these keywords come from?
From YouTube's own search suggestions, the list that appears as you type in its search box. We look up your topic in up to 43 ways, such as your topic followed by each letter from A to Z.
Does it show YouTube search volume?
No. YouTube publishes no search counts, so any exact number is an estimate. We show how strongly YouTube suggests each keyword instead. In YouTube Studio, the Trends tab shows audience interest from very low to very high.
What do High, Medium and Low demand mean?
High: YouTube suggests it straight away when someone types your topic. Medium: it is in YouTube's first three suggestions for one of our searches, or more than one search finds it. Low: it came up once, lower down.
How hard is a keyword to rank for?
We show no difficulty score, because no outside tool can see how YouTube ranks videos. Press See videos beside a keyword to check what already answers it. Longer, more specific keywords usually have fewer videos competing.
Does it group keywords into topics?
Yes. Topics groups the keywords that share a word after yours, such as discard or feeding for sourdough starter. Press one to see only those keywords, then plan a video for each group.
What are question keywords?
Searches written as a question, starting with words like what, why, how or can. Each shows what viewers want answered, so it can become a video, a chapter or a Short. Press Questions to see only these.
Which countries and languages does it cover?
40 countries and 20 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, German, Hindi, Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese, Vietnamese and Turkish. Pick a country and its main language is chosen for you; change either one.
Is this YouTube keyword tool free?
Yes. No sign-up, no email and nothing to install. Each person can run 20 new searches every 10 minutes. A search made in the last hour loads at once and does not count.
How do I use keywords in my YouTube video?
Put your main keyword near the start of your title and say it in the first seconds of the video. Answer question keywords as chapters or Shorts, and use related keywords in your description.
How is this different from vidIQ or TubeBuddy?
It is free, with no extension and no account. It shows only what YouTube itself suggests, so there are no made-up numbers. Paid tools such as vidIQ and TubeBuddy add their own estimated scores.
Why did my search find nothing?
New, rare or misspelled topics may have no suggestions yet. We show only keywords spelled close to your words. Check the spelling, try fewer words, or press one of the broader searches we offer.
Can I copy or download the keywords?
Yes. Copy puts the keywords on your clipboard, one per line. Download .csv adds each one's demand, where it came from, its labels, country and language, ready for Google Sheets or Excel.
